As well as one room of more recent works for sale, I will be selling all my pre-2016 works at vastly reduced prices.

It’s a decision I have made to “make room for the new”, so that I can focus on new paintings in the coming year. I am pleased with all of the older paintings on show, and know that they will make a good addition to people’s homes. The artist’s journey is just that, a journey. Artists are always moving forward and that’s what I intend to do.

In preparation for my Open Studio last week, I had a number of prints created by Replicolour near Oswestry. I was so pleased with the trueness of the colours to the originals.

Replicolour uses smooth matt 240gsm paper and pigment inks which are resistant to fading in a way that standard printer inks are not.

George at Replicolour scans the paintings, stitching several scans together for the larger pictures. He then adjusts the print colours with the original in sight, which enables him to get great colour matching.

These images are Trinity; Dyfi estuary at Aberdovey; Evening, Dyfi estuary; Journeys in autumn.

Print sizes are variable because of the size and shape of the original paintings. Generally speaking, small prints are the largest image that will fit within an A4 sheet, with a small white border around the picture. Medium prints are the largest print size that will fit within an A3 sheet, with a small white border. Large prints are either 40cm square (if paintings are square) or the largest image size that will fit within an A2 sheet, with a small white border.

I am very excited to be having an Open Studio on Saturday, 25th May 2024, 10am-4pm.

There will be the grand unveiling of the largest painting yet! (of Barmouth).

Last month, Sue said “I’ve finished my Barmouth painting! There are 39 boats and over 150 windows and doors on the buildings in the painting. What a marathon! It took over six months to paint it.

I have added lots of local scenes since my last open studio, also held at my house in Newtown. There will be originals in oil or acrylics of local scenes on sale as well as framed giclee prints for sale. These are all available for sale on the website in the online shop, so if you see something you like, mention it to me and what your favourite is, and you are then welcome to purchase it immediately at the open day or later in the comfort of your own home.

The Open Studio will be held at Bodlondeb, Back Lane, Newtown, SY16 2NH. Look for the black and white house with bay windows. There is free admission and refreshments will be provided.

I started with a scarlet/ orange base coat before drawing the key features on in pencil and beginning to block in the sea and hills.

With approximately 40 boats, 27 buildings and literally dozens of windows, this has been the most challenging painting I have ever tackled. And it is huge too, 90cm by 70cm!

I am hoping to finish it in the next week, and will be holding an open studio, with this painting as the main feature, although other of my works will be on display too.

I am very excited to be having an Open Studio. Believe it or not, the last one was 12 years ago, not long after we moved to Newtown.

I am beavering away, and it certainly feels as if we are living in an art exhibition! 🙂

I have added lots of local scenes since 2010, and our house will be open on Friday 1st April from 2pm-5pm and on Saturday 2nd April, 2022 from 10am-5pm. Entry is free. There will be oil and acrylic paintings of local scenes on sale and also framed giclee prints.

The platform I’m using is FrameVR. It does take a bit of time to learn to drive your  avatar and then to position artwork on the virtual walls, but the experience is mind-blowing- to me anyway!

When Newtown Town Council announced that the traditional Christmas lights switch on event would have to go online, everyone was disappointed. However, lantern making kits of various types were given out to encourage local people to light up their windows. I decided to make lanterns for our front windows, which are directly on one of the main routes through town and the lanterns are now in situ. They look interesting during the day but very beautiful at night!
