River at Berriew
River at Berriew, oil on canvas, £466 plus postage and packing

This oil painting started life “en plein air”, standing on the rocky river bank of a river which flows into the upper Severn. It’s a beautiful spot in a quiet, rural village.
In fact, my painting day started in a spectacular fashion, as I slipped on a rock by the river and ended sitting up to my waist in cold river water! I had to drive back home, soaking wet and sitting on a carrier bag. Then I changed into dry clothes and drove straight back. It was definitely one of my more memorable painting sessions! I did not finish the painting within the day, so came back to it several times in the studio, using a photo as a reference.
My art tutor that day was Daniel Yeomans, an amazingly talented portrait and landscape artist. You can see more of his work here- https://danieljamesyeomans.com/
Painting tip- Don’t fall in the river at the start of the day! 🙂 But apart from that my tip would be, “Even when you are being tutored by an experienced artist, you need to accept that you have your own unique style, so your painting will never turn out like theirs.” Sue Newham
