Severn summer, oil on canvas, £1155, plus postage and packing

This painting captures a warm summer’s day when three teenagers were paddling in the River Severn in Newtown. They were laughing and shrieking as they braved the deeper water, in a moment of sheer enjoyment. The river itself was shady but bright patches of sunlight were playing through the trees.
The first version of this picture was painted in 2013, but 2021 saw it being given a whole new over-painting to draw out the areas of light and shade and to bring the figures into sharper focus. It was a runner up in the Big Art Competition run by Newtown Town Council and the image was displayed on the Oriel Davies Gallery in the town in spring 2022.

The painting is oil on canvas measuring approximately 60cm by 79.5 cm. It is currently unframed, but is painted around the edge of the canvas, so could be hung unframed.

“Painting tip- Think about getting a range of tones from very dark to very light within your pictures. It adds to the interest and impact of the picture.” Sue Newham
