Description
I wanted to paint a picture based on the parable of the lost sheep, but from a very close up viewpoint to make the story feel very personal. As the picture developed, it reminded me how helpless the sheep is. It has got into a dangerous situation through its own free will, but is completely unable to rescue itself. The only rescue comes through the shepherd, who is willing to risk injury, and in Jesus’ case death, to rescue the powerless.
